Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what progress her Department has made on the authorisation of mung bean protein under the Novel Foods Regulations.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has received an application for mung bean protein, which is being considered under the Novel Foods Regulations, ahead of advising ministers on its authorisation in Great Britain. The safety assessment for this application was published on 30 July 2025, and the application is now at the Risk Management stage of the authorisation process.
