Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what discussions she has had with major social media companies regarding misinformation targeting young users.
Ministers and officials regularly engage with social media companies on child online safety issues including harmful and misleading content. Ofcom also works with platforms to promote media literacy and help users critically assess online content.
Alongside engagement, the Online Safety Act requires platforms to tackle mis/disinformation where it is illegal or harmful to children. Services likely to be accessed by children must provide extra protections. Ofcom has strong enforcement powers for platforms failing to meet their duties.
