The level of the new and basic State Pension will rise every year under the adjusted Triple Lock, keeping pace with earnings over time. The number of pensioners entitled to Pension Credit in 2040 will depend on a wide range of factors. Pensioner poverty is however set to fall in the decades ahead.

The Government is not complacent on the issue of pensioner poverty. This is why we have asked the Pensions Commission to make recommendations on further support for lower-income pensioners in their final report.
