Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, with reference to the letter to MPs entitled The future of the Triple Lock, dated 13 October 2026, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of the adjusted Triple Lock on the financial security of pensioners who rely primarily on the State Pension.

Levels of pensioner poverty under the adjusted triple lock are projected to decline in the decades ahead. However, the Government is not complacent on the issue of pensioner poverty. This is why we have asked the Pensions Commission to make recommendations on further support for lower-income pensioners in their final report. Further information can be found in Chart 1 here: State Pension uprating - GOV.UK.

There are 1 million pensioners with income from State Pension and state benefits only in 2024/25. This can be found in the published Pensioners’ Incomes series available at: Pensioners' Incomes: financial years ending 1995 to 2025 - GOV.UK.
