Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, whether support group claimants will be required to sign a claimant commitment when they are transferred to universal credit.

This question was answered on 28th April 2016

All claimants are required to accept a claimant commitment as a condition of entitlement for receiving universal credit. Claimants who are not subject to work-related requirements will do this through the online claims process.

However, we have the ability to lift this requirement where it is appropriate to do so, either temporarily or in the longer-term, including for those claimants in the support group of Employment and Support Allowance.
