It is the responsibility of individual National Health Service providers to ensure they have sufficient staff to provide safe and effective services.

Complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease is recognised as a specialised service which is commissioned by NHS England. The standard NHS England contract to commission this service contains a requirement that commissioned providers should train and maintain the specialist nurses in order to provide the service.
