Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps he is taking to help improve stroke prevention.
The Department is supporting local authorities in reinstating the NHS Health Check programme following a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. NHS Health Checks aim to prevent stroke and other forms of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among adults aged 40 to 74 years old
Following a review in 2021, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities is supporting local authorities to increase the uptake and impact of the NHS Health Check. NHS England has commissioned a national primary care audit, CVDPREVENT, to provide data on the diagnosis and management of six high risk conditions which cause stroke, heart attack and dementia. The data will enable the National Health Service to identify disparities and opportunities for improvement in the prevention of stroke and other CVD conditions.
