Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, with reference to the HMP Bure action plan updated on 19 October 2026, whether funding has been approved for CCTV on the residential wings at HMP Bure; by what date and at what cost it will be installed; and whether it is part of a wider programme to install CCTV on residential wings.

The project to upgrade CCTV in all residential blocks and wings at HMP Bure is funded as part of the 2026-27 custodial capital maintenance programme. Coverage will include the segregation unit, educational facilities, the control and command suite, and all associated activity spaces. The design and development stages have been completed, and the work is currently out to tender. Delivery dates will be confirmed once the contract has been let. The work is scheduled to be completed within this financial year, at a cost of approximately £500,000.

The age and condition of CCTV equipment vary from prison to prison. Local teams are responsible for conducting CCTV surveys and making bids for replacement ahead of assets’ reaching end of life, as well as for expansion or upgrading of provision where necessary.
