Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what steps will he take to ensure that the UK achieve 1.5'C within the Government's committed timescale.
The Paris Agreement temperature goal is a collective aim for all Parties to limit global temperature increase to well below 2 degrees Celsius and pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
The UK has legislated to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, which the Climate Change Committee has advised is consistent with the Paris Agreement temperature goal. The Government has set out plans to deliver on this in the Net Zero Strategy.
