Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment she has made of the proportion of tagging visits by Serco that resulted in a tag being fitted in each month since May 2024; and whether she plans to amend the contractual key performance indicator for tag fitting so that it measures successful fitting rather than attempts made.

The Department has seen continued improvement in the suppliers’ performance since the contractual requirements took effect in November 2024, following transition to Serco. From January 2026, the key installation and non-compliance and breach notification measures have all been met and from March 2026, Serco have met all contractual requirements consistently. This position has enabled us to maintain supplier performance during the progression model tranche releases.

The Government is rolling out the programme to install tags at the prison gates, following a successful pilot.
