Decisions on school uniform rest with the academy trust (or the governing body in the case of maintained schools) of each individual school.

The Department has published best practice guidance on school uniform for all schools which is available at www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-uniform

The guidance recommends governing bodies (or the academy trusts) consider the timeframe for introducing a new uniform policy or amending an existing one, taking into account the views of parents and pupils on significant changes to school uniform policy.

The Department does not provide specific school uniform guidance to schools converting to academy status or collect information about the number of schools which have adopted a new uniform on conversion to academy status.
