Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what plans he has to issue nutrition advice to people during the lockdown period of the covid-19 outbreak.
The Department of Health and Social Care is the Government department responsible for nutrition policy and Public Health England is responsible for issuing nutritional advice to the public.
The Government has reissued advice for vitamin D supplementation. That is, if you are not going outdoors often, you should consider taking a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D. Therefore, we are recommending that while the stay at home measures are in place, everyone follows this advice (including children, pregnant and breastfeeding women and older people).
The Government continues to advise that during this time everyone follows a healthy, balanced diet in line with the national food model, the Eatwell Guide.
Public Health England has updated channels such as Change4Life, Start4Life and One You, to make them consistent with the wider COVID-19 and general advice on healthier eating.
