Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, to what temperature is the rail network heat resilient.
The UK’s railway network has traditionally been engineered to withstand a temperate climate. However, with weather patterns changing, we have taken steps to increase the temperatures that the railway can safely operate at, with a particular focus on improving the resilience of our track and electrification assets. We have also adapted the way in which we maintain and operate the railway, to enable us to keep as many services as possible running during incidents of extreme weather.
