Question to the Cabinet Office:

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, with reference to the King's Speech 2026: background briefing notes, published 13 May 2026, on the Removal of Peerages Bill, to what degree will the Bill apply retrospectively to peers who were associated with controversy before the passage of the Bill.

As set out in the King’s Speech, the Government will introduce legislation to create a mechanism to remove peerages from disgraced peers, and will provide further details in due course.
