The UK is committed to supporting the Egyptian people’s aspiration for a full and functioning democracy, including an independent judiciary, a vibrant civil society and a free media. We urge Egypt to hold free and fair elections in which all parties can participate, as soon as possible.

I made a statement on 1 March encouraging Egypt to take the necessary steps to hold free and constitutional parliamentary elections as soon as possible and to complete the road map announced in July 2013.
