Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether his Department has a target for the average number of hours per week worked by armed forces personnel, broken down by service.

The MOD does not set Service personnel specific targets to work to a certain number of hours, nor does it record the hours worked by Service personnel.

Routinely and where possible, Defence’s intent is for all Service Personnel to work what might be considered a ‘normal’ working day (e.g. 08:30 to 17:00) five days a week, or equivalent for those required to work shifts, although this may be subject to change dependent upon operational tempo and / or other service commitments.
