Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what recent assessment his Department has made of the effectiveness of the introduction of standardised packaging of cigarettes on levels of smoking in the UK.

The Department published an impact assessment of standardised packaging in February 2015. It is too early to make a further assessment of the impact of these changes on levels of smoking in the United Kingdom. The Department has a statutory duty to review the impact of standardised packaging within five years of its introduction.
