Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what discussions he has had with his counterpart in the People's Republic of China on the detention of human rights lawyers since July 2015.
I raised the cases of the 15 Chinese lawyers and rights activists in pre-trial detention since July 2015 with the Chinese ambassador, in writing, on 1 August 2016. We also raised their cases most recently with the Chinese authorities at the UK/China Human Rights Dialogue on 27 October when we called on them to release those individuals detained for seeking to protect the rights of others.
