Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what discussions she has had on the potential merits of heather burning for countryside habitats.

Defra, Natural England and stakeholders have had extensive discussions regarding heather burning as a land management tool in the uplands. Different management methods are needed on different habitats; burning is one tool that can be used where appropriate and in compliance with applicable regulations.
