Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, how many incidents of water pollution through the excess use of fertilisers were recorded in each of the last 10 years.

There were 530 confirmed water pollution incidents due to slurry or fertiliser recorded as originating from land or fields in the 10 year period from 2007 to date in England .

The Environment Agency is working to reduce the number of agricultural pollution incidents by giving advice and guidance and by working with other regulators, trade associations and farmers representatives to raise awareness of pollution risk and promote best practice.
