Since 2009-10 NHS Protect only took responsibility for cases that were assessed as more complex or serious investigations, cases that had national implications and were not deemed local matters, cases that crossed regional boundaries or cases where resources or use of certain legislative procedures could not reasonably be expected to be applied at a local level. The nature and type of these cases has meant that fewer investigations and prosecutions have taken place.

The information requested is shown in the following tables.
