Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, what recent assessment he has made of the humanitarian situation in Myanmar.
We continue to monitor the humanitarian situation, the escalating conflict and the restrictions on humanitarian access in Myanmar. According to the UN, at least 500,000 people have been displaced by the recent violence, in addition to the two million already displaced. Over 18.4 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. The British Embassy in Yangon are ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches those most in need. Since the February 2021 coup, we have provided more than £120 million in humanitarian and development assistance, including supporting internally displaced persons, by providing food, water, hygiene and sanitation services, shelter and medical equipment.
