Railways: Safety

Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of the safety implications of the use of (a) zero hours contracts, (b) bogus self-employment and (c) guaranteed minimum hours contracts in Network Rail's supply chain for both (i) the railway infrastructure and workforce and (ii) the travelling public.

Assessments and handling of safety risk is a matter for Network Rail. It is the responsibility of the Office of Rail and Road to monitor Network Rail as the safety regulator.
