Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment her Department has made of the potential impact of upgrading to 5G infrastructure across the rail network on the economy.

The Department continues to work closely with Network Rail and industry to explore solutions to improve connectivity on trains, which includes rolling out rail 5G on passenger trains.

We are also exploring the feasibility of satellite connectivity to improve passenger mobile connectivity. This will rely on the outcome of the spending review.
