Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the Answer of 6 December 2016 to Question 55224, how many incidents of hate crime were recorded in 2014-15.

The Home Office collect and publish statistics on the number of hate crimes recorded by the police on an annual basis. In 2014/15, the police recorded 52,465 hate crimes in England and Wales. The latest statistical bulletin can be found here:

This Government is committed to tackling hate crime. The UK has one of the strongest legislative frameworks in the world to tackle hate crime. We are working across Government with police, (including National Community Tensions Team), the Crown Prosecution Service and community partners to send out a clear message that hate crime will not be tolerated and we will vigorously pursue and prosecute those who commit these crimes.
