Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what estimate she has made of the number of countries that have failed to meet the World Health Organisation's target for 10 per cent of their populations to be fully vaccinated against covid-19 as at 18 October 2021.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on 30 September 2021 that 56 countries had not yet meet the target of vaccinating 10% of their population. The UK welcomes WHO's recently launched strategy for global COVID-19 vaccination and is working with them and other international partners to support its goals. This includes our £548 million support for the COVAX Advance Market Commitment, which will aim to supply up to 1.8 billion doses to low and middle income countries by early 2022, as well as our commitment to share 100 million doses by mid-2022.
