Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, with reference to the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and the Council COM(2016)157/F1, what advice he plans to issue to consumers on the consumption of cadmium-rich food.
The Food Standards Agency does not consider that general consumer advice on cadmium in food is necessary at this time. However the Food Standards Agency supports proportionate measures to reduce inputs of cadmium into the environment and to mitigate cadmium levels in food in order to reduce consumer exposure to this environmental contaminant to as low as is reasonably practicable.
