Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what reports he has received on allegations of impropriety in relation to doctors being encouraged, explicitly or implicitly, by pharmaceutical companies to use plasma concentrates instead of cryoprecipitate in blood transfusions which contributed to patients receiving contaminated blood.
Officials are not aware of any reports relating to allegations of impropriety in relation to doctors being encouraged by any pharmaceutical company to use plasma concentrates instead of cryoprecipitate in National Health Service-supplied blood transfusions, which contributed to patients being infected with HIV and/or hepatitis C.
