Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what assistance she is proving to countries neighbouring Afghanistan to host vulnerable Afghan nationals hoping to resettle in the UK while the Afghan citizens resettlement scheme is closed.
The Prime Minister has announced that UK aid to Afghanistan this year will double to £286 million, one of our largest bilateral programmes. The first tranche of this funding announced £30 million of life-saving aid to Afghanistan's neighbouring countries to help those who choose to leave Afghanistan as part of the Government's efforts to support refugees and safeguard regional stability. The UK's total aid contribution to the country since 2001 is now around £3.5 billion.
