All asylum seekers whose applications have been fully determined and have exhausted their appeal rights are required to leave the UK as soon as possible. Where failed asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute are unable to leave the UK due to circumstances beyond their control they can continue to be supported until the barrier to their return is removed. The Home Office publishes quarterly figures on the number of asylum seekers in receipt of support, including under Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, in table as_18q in volume 4 of the Asylum data tables.
