Question to the Department for Education:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, pursuant to the Answer of 28 September to Question 51633 on Schools: Solar Power, whether he has made an estimate of the current annual energy generation from photovoltaic panels in schools in England in megajoules.
The number of solar panels, recorded by surveyors as photovoltaic (PV) panels, in schools in England was collected as part of the Condition Data Programme (CDC). It was recorded that there were 175,634 solar panels in academy schools, 116,015 in maintained schools, and 4,504 in other schools.
The Department has not estimated the annual energy generation from the photovoltaic panels installed on (a) academy, (b) maintained and (c) other schools in England as this will be a function of several local and systems specific characteristics, including but not limited to: location, orientation and efficiency.
Responsible bodies can assess the solar generation from the installed panels through their display energy certificates or sub metering systems.
