NHS Digital publishes an annual summary of payments to general practices, including details of the average payment per registered patient for GP practices in England. The following table shows the data for 2016/17 to 2019/20. Information for 2020/21 is not yet available.

Year

Payment per registered patient

2016/2017

£152.81

2017/2018

£153.77

2018/2019

£154.81

2019/2020

£155.46

Notes:

Due to collection methods, the data should be treated with caution as some patients may be double counted or excluded from the data set.

Following a methodological change in 2018/19 to the way in which patient counts are calculated, England-level average payments per registered and weighted patient have been recalculated for 2016/17 and 2017/18 and provided by NHS Digital.
