Question to the Department for Education:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, whether the proposed healthy rating scheme, outlined in Childhood obesity: a plan for action, published in August 2016, will include a criterion on compliance with school food standards for food served across the whole day.
We want schools to be supported to encourage pupils to lead healthier lifestyles.
The Healthy Schools Rating Scheme will provide schools with the tools to assess how well they encourage their children to eat a nutritious diet and lead an active lifestyle, and how they can improve. Healthy eating will be a core strand of the scheme but the detailed criteria have not yet been developed. Over the next month, we will be exploring the design and delivery options further with potential suppliers through pre-market engagement discussions. Further details will be announced in due course.
