Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how many cataract operations have been conducted for people in each age group in each of the last five years.

The number of cataract operations in England over the last five years are shown in the attached table. In 2013-14 there were 365,470. This compares to 343,970 operations in 2009-10. The 70-79 and 80-89 age groups had the largest number of operations accounting for 68% of cataract operations in 2013-14.
