Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, if he will amend National Planning Policy Framework guidance to enable communities to strengthen protection for local ancient woodland.

The existing protection for ancient woodland in the Framework is strong and it is very clear that development of these areas should be avoided. This is supported by our planning practice guidance.
