Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many (a) horses and (b) dogs have been (i) injured and (ii) killed while on police duty in each of the last five years.
Their deployment and use of police animals is an operational matter for chief constables. As such, the Home Office does not hold information on injures and deaths of police animals centrally. Any use of animals by the police must meet the welfare requirements of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
