Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what assessment he has made of the adequacy of the current level of treatment for people diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published on 25 January 2017 the clinical guideline Cerebral palsy in under 25s: assessment and management NICE guideline (NG62). This is an independent and definitive view of the appropriate support for people with cerebral palsy.
Clinical commissioning groups and local authorities have a responsibility to commission services that best meet the needs of their populations, including those with cerebral palsy.
The Care Quality Commission and Ofsted have responsibility for reviewing the quality of care provided by the National Health Service, and social care and educational providers respectively. They are jointly reviewing the arrangements made in each local area for meeting the needs of children and young people with a special educational need and disability, which is likely to include children with cerebral palsy with the greatest needs.
