Tobacco: Excise Duties

Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what estimate his Department has made of the reduction in monies coming in to the public purse which result from each increase in one per cent in excise duty charged on tobacco products.

An indication of the fiscal effect of a one per cent increase in duty in 2017-18 on tobacco products set out in the HM Revenue and Customs publication, Direct effects of illustrative tax changes. This is available to view at:

All estimates show the impacts of the various illustrative changes on top of what is already assumed in the indexed baseline (RPI+2% until the end of this parliament for Tobacco Products Duty).
