Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of the effect of halogen bulbs in recently manufactured cars on a driver's eyesight when driving at night.

Halogen bulbs have been used in cars for many years but no specific assessment has been made of their effect on drivers’ eyesight.

However, in response to a UK initiative, an international review of the glare effect of modern vehicle lighting is underway at the UN-ECE technical expert group and should report by the end of the year.
