Responsibility for compliance with the building regulations rests with those building new homes. All new homes are subject to supervision by a building control body, which can be a local authority or approved inspector. Building control bodies must take all reasonable steps to ascertain if the building work complies with the relevant requirements of the building regulations and not give a compliance certificate until satisfied that the requirements have been met.
