Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what recent assessment he has made of the security of the border between the Transnistria region of Moldova and Ukraine.

The UK fully supports the work of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) and the active role it is playing in supporting both Moldova and Ukraine in border management. No recent UK assessments have been made of the security of the border between the Transnistria region of Moldova and Ukraine. Part of the state border between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine is under the control of the de facto Transnistrian authorities and the de jure Moldovan authorities are unable to exercise any effective control on the side of the state border outside their effective control.
