Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how much funding his Department allocated to public information campaigns on suicide prevention in each year since 2010.

This question was answered on 20th March 2017

The Department does not directly invest in public information campaigns on suicide prevention.

Public Health England raises awareness of suicide prevention and provides guidance to local authorities and the National Health Service on various topics, for example mental health in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community.

Addressing the stigma that surrounds mental health, including suicide and self-harm is a priority. We provided additional investment of £12.5 million for the next phase of Time to Change up to 2020 to address mental health stigma. Time to Change recently launched the ‘In your corner’ social marketing campaign to encourage men to talk about mental health which we know can be a significant barrier in terms of preventing suicide in this group.
