The Government published its White Paper, “The United Kingdom’s exit from and new partnership with European Union” on 2 February. It provides a comprehensive articulation of the objectives and the rationale for our approach to the forthcoming negotiations.

As we conduct the negotiations to leave the EU, it must be a priority to regain more control of the numbers of people who come here from Europe.

We are about to begin these negotiations and it would be wrong to set out further positions in advance. At every step of these negotiations we will work to ensure the best possible outcome for the British people.
