Question to the Department for Exiting the European Union :

To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, how many (a) security or police staff and (b) civil servants escorted the letter triggering Article 50 to the office of the President of the European Council.

This question was answered on 24th April 2017

The letter was taken to Brussels by two civil servants travelling on Eurostar. The overall travel costs have yet to be finalised. The letter was then delivered to the President of the European Council by Sir Tim Barrow as part of his duties as UK Permanent Representative to the European Union at no additional cost.
