Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, pursuant to the Answer of 29 March 2017 to Question 68881, what proportion of the initially projected benefits of the smart meter rollout is the £1,548 million reduction in benefits, as reported in the 2016 Cost Benefit Analysis.

The headline net benefit of the rollout estimated in the 2016 Cost Benefit Analysis is broadly similar to the previous assessment published in 2014. However, there have been significant movements in the composition of benefits beneath the headline figure from updated assumptions and methodological adjustments. As such, it is not meaningful to consider one change in isolation. The 2016 CBA provides an overview of changes to analysis since the 2014 Impact Assessment (Table 2-2 on p.15 of Part I of the CBA).
