Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what steps he is taking to improve the labelling of meat and other animal products to help consumers make an informed decision about welfare standards.
There is currently no requirement for method of production labelling. However, in the UK, farmers and food business operators have long been accustomed to voluntarily providing information to enable consumers to make informed decisions about their food choices.
Leaving the EU provides an opportunity to reconsider labelling policy.
