Very few low carbon hydrogen production projects are currently in operation. However, up to 20GW of potential low carbon hydrogen capacity has been identified in the UK pipeline. The Government has set its ambition for up to 10GW of hydrogen production capacity in the UK by 2030, with at least half being electrolytic hydrogen. The £240m Net Zero Hydrogen Fund and Hydrogen Business Model were launched to kickstart investment in UK low carbon production. The first Hydrogen Strategy update, published in July 2022, included a summary of existing UK hydrogen production.
