In 2021/22, we are investing more than £90 million for community support and to facilitate discharge of people with a learning disability and autistic people from inpatient settings. This will enable more people to receive personalised care in the community, closer to home and reduce preventable admissions.

The cross-Government Building the right support Delivery Board is responsible for progress in reducing the number of people with a learning disability and autistic people in mental health inpatient settings, through oversight of relevant activities and by commissioning specific workstreams. One such workstream is focussing on identifying and disseminating best practice on community support to allow people to live close to family and friends.
