Rule 6 of the Short Term Holding Facility Rules 2018 states that a detained person must not be detained in a holding room for a period of more than 24 hours. The Secretary of State may authorise this period to be extended if she determines that exceptional circumstances require it.

Further information is available in published guidance on the Short Term Holding Facility Rules 2018.
