Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, if he will make it his policy to (a) support the call made by the UN Secretary General to double climate adaptation finance and (b) increase climate adaptation finance for programmes which safeguard food security for communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
The Prime Minister announced at COP27 that the UK will triple our funding for adaptation from £500 million in 2019 to £1.5 billion in 2025. Our funding will support the most vulnerable people in the developing world to adapt and build resilience to the impacts of climate change, including through programmes that seek to safeguard food security. Our recently published annual International Climate Finance (ICF) results show that since 2011 we have helped over 95 million people cope with the effects of climate change.
